Restrictive practices
Carevally is approved to implement restrictive practices under the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission framework. We use them only where authorised, only as a last resort, and only under an approved Behaviour Support Plan.
What restrictive practices are
A restrictive practice is any practice or intervention that has the effect of restricting the rights or freedom of movement of a person with disability. Examples include chemical restraint, environmental restraint, mechanical restraint, physical restraint and seclusion.
Our approach
We implement restrictive practices only where they are documented in an approved Behaviour Support Plan developed by a registered NDIS behaviour support practitioner, only where they have been authorised by the relevant state authority, and only as a last resort after positive behaviour support strategies have been tried.
Reporting
All regulated restrictive practices are reported to the NDIS Commission monthly. Reportable use of unauthorised restrictive practices is notified within the required timeframes.
Reduction and elimination
Our goal is always to reduce and ultimately eliminate the use of restrictive practices. We work with the participant, their family and their behaviour support practitioner to track progress and adjust strategies.
Participant rights
Participants have the right to be informed about any restrictive practices used in their support, to have those practices reviewed, and to raise concerns through our Feedback & complaints process or directly with the NDIS Commission on 1800 035 544.
